Do you ever wonder what Huw Edwards has to say for himself?
Yes, that Huw Edwards – the one who broke the news to the nation about the death of the Queen Elizabeth II in 2022; the Huw Edwards who was lavished with praise for his “peerless” performance on BBC News, as 9.7 million out of 16 million viewers tuned in to one of the defining news moments of the decade, if not the century.
The same Huw Edwards, in fact, who was slapped with a suspended prison sentence in 2024, after pleading guilty to receiving and making indecent images of children. Lest we forget, some of those images were Category A – the most serious – and involved a child aged between seven and nine years old. The (now) 64-year-old was also accused of grooming a vulnerable teenager, sending him tens of thousands of pounds in exchange for explicit images and videos. Police found no evidence of criminal behaviour in this case.
This very same, very disgraced Huw Edwards now wants us to read his new Substack, you see. And I’m not buying it. In fact, I don’t believe he should be making a self-serving comeback, at all.
Edwards will post once a week, he says – with no plans for paid subs – because after a 40-year career in broadcast journalism, with a focus on Welsh, British and French politics, he remains “a keen observer of events”.
