Self-proclaimed Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko has likely turned off relay stations that helped Russian drones strike Ukraine, but Kyiv must push for their full dismantlement as well as the termination of all military exercises on Belarusian territory.
This was stated in a comment to an Ukrinform correspondent in Strasbourg by Pavel Latushka, Deputy Head of the United Transitional Cabinet of Belarus.
“Right now, it looks like Lukashenko has decided to switch off these relay stations. But I think we need to insist on their complete dismantling so that there is no possibility of simply turning them back on in the future,” Latushka said.
He also drew attention to Lukashenko’s unusual behavior, noting that he had planned to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the same day.
“But this visit was postponed, and Peskov commented that he cannot confirm the date or place of the meeting, although it would not take place in Moscow. Meanwhile, we see Lukashenko back in his office, where he received Valentina Matviyenko, the speaker of the Federation Council. And he says something absolutely unacceptable for any state leader – expressing regret that Belarus and Russia exist as two separate countries,” the opposition politician said, adding that Lukashenko is trying to “sweeten the situation for Putin” to avoid a harsh reaction.
