The Karnataka State Committee of Right to Information Activists has requested Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to provide compensation of ₹50 lakh each to the families of two workers who died after falling into 40-foot-deep sewage treatment plant (STP) of the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) on June 18. The group held a silent protest outside the BWSSB office on Thursday and submitted a letter. In a letter addressed to the CM and BWSSB Chairperson Manjula N., the group said that two people tragically lost their lives, raising concerns over worker safety, supervision and accountability at the plant. The group called for fixing accountability on the departments and officials responsible for the incident and sought strict enforcement of safety standards to prevent similar accidents in the future. They demanded that all necessary resources be made available to the National Disaster Response Force, Fire and Emergency Services personnel and BWSSB officials to ensure the speedy recovery of the second body, which is still not traced.
