President Donald Trump offered to help and assist Venezuela after the country experienced two powerful earthquakes on Wednesday, causing significant damage in the South American country. As of Thursday morning, 164 people were dead and over 971 were injured after the back-to-back earthquakes, with the first registering a magnitude 7.1 on the Richter scale and the second registering a 7.5. The death toll is expected to rise in the aftermath, with the U.S. Geological Survey estimating that there is a “44% chance of over 10,000 casualties.” The president warned that the earthquakes “have left a devastating number of deaths” in a post to his Truth Social account late Wednesday night. He said the United States is standing by and ready to help.“The two major earthquakes that just hit the great people of Venezuela are both massive in scale and have left a devastating number of deaths,” Trump said in his post. “The U.S.A. stands ready, willing, and able to help! I have instructed all agencies of our government to get ready to move quickly. We will be there for our new and great friends. Early reports are not good!!!”
