U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that technical talks between Tehran and Washington will resume in Switzerland on June 29 or 30.
Speaking to reporters in Kuwait during his Middle East tour, Rubio commented on the return of the negotiating delegations to Switzerland, saying, “If I’m not mistaken, they are returning to Switzerland. In any case, the technical group will meet again to continue the talks.”
Regarding the presence of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors in Iran, the U.S. Secretary of State noted that this issue is part of Tehran’s commitments and must be implemented. He added: “They will take the necessary actions at the right time, but it must happen. This is a commitment they have made, and they must stick to it.”
Rubio emphasized that Washington will only support a “real and good” deal, stating: “If Iran wants to achieve a real and good agreement, the United States is ready. Otherwise, naturally, the President has other options available.”
Following the signing of a memorandum of understanding to extend the ceasefire for 60 days and meetings between the two countries’ delegations in Switzerland, Iran and the U.S. agreed to form a “High Committee” for political oversight of the negotiation process. Qatar and Pakistan, the mediators of these talks, have announced that this committee has agreed on a “roadmap” to reach a final agreement within 60 days - an agreement that paves the way for the immediate start of further technical talks.
