A nice bomb from Moses is brought down by a leaping Tallis Duncan, but the Souths centre jumped from inside the field of play and is trapped in the in-goal so it’s a dropout – and yet another Eels set. This time Parramatta almost score in the left corner through Sean Russell but he’s stopped by a superb ball-and-all tackle from Duncan. Two tackles later Moses puts down a poor pass from dummy-half and the Rabbitohs escape.Rabbitohs 12, Eels 6 after 28 minutes8.14pmWatch: Smith sets up Aitken for Souths’ secondBy 8.13pmTRY: Kelly dances through Rabbitohs’ defence for Parra’s first pointsBy The Eels are on the board! A bomb goes up from Ronald Volkman, Kelma Tuilagi leaps for it and bats the ball backwards to Mitch Moses, who loops a pass to Brian Kelly. The winger still has plenty to do but he does it brilliantly, stepping off his right foot once, twice, three times to cut inside Alex Johnston, Latrell Siegwalt and Jye Gray for an excellent try.Moses converts and it’s back to a six-point game.Rabbitohs 12, Eels 6 after 20 minutes8.09pmWatch: Walker splits Eels’ defence for tonight’s opening tryBy 8.06pmTRY: Smith sends Aitken over after Johnston breakBy Souths go close again when Alex Johnston makes a weaving line break down the left, and is brought down just short of the tryline. Then Cody Walker rolls a grubber into the in-goal, can’t get a second try but forces a goal-line dropoout. The Bunnies get the ball back from a long kick and a couple of tackles later they’re in again, Brandon Smith running out of dummy-half then linking up with Euan Aitken who crashes over on the left edge. Latrell Siegwalt converts.Rabbitohs 12, Eels 0 after 15 minutes7.57pmTRY: Cody Walker opens scoring for Souths after Tuilagi errorBy Souths’ next foray into Parramatta’s half ends with an Ashton Ward bomb that’s taken well by a leaping Isaiah Iongi. And a couple of tackles later Latrell Siegwalt cops a nasty head clash while attempting to make a tackle. He doesn’t go off for an HIA though, and Kelma Tuilagi spills the ball in the tackle so the Rabbitohs go on the attack again. And this time they make the Eels pay, shifting the ball to the left before Cody Walker dummies a pass then slips between Tuilagi and Mitch Moses to score the game’s first try.Rabbitohs 6, Eels 0 after five minutes7.52pmKick-off – and Souths immediately get a scoring chanceBy The Rabbitohs are out on the field, and now Mitch Moses leads out the Eels, with one child on his shoulder and another holding his hand. The trio almost get stuck trying to get through the “250 game” banner but they’re through it after a few awkward seconds, and then the rest of the team is on the field and we’re ready for kick-off.Souths kick this one off and Sam Tuivaiti has the first hit-up of the game for Parramatta. But only a couple of tackles later we have the game’s first mistake, Jack Williams spilling the ball just outside the Eels’ 20-metre line. The Rabbitohs get the first attacking chance of the game in the opening minute – but their set ends with David Fifita swamped by defenders and tackled on the last.Eels 0, Rabbitohs 0 after two minutesMitchell Moses takes the field with family ahead of his 250th NRL game.Getty Images7.46pmHighlights: The last time these teams playedBy Jai Arrow captained the Rabbitohs to a hard-fought 20-16 win over the Eels in round 24 last season at Allianz Stadium.7.42pmTonight’s official team listsBy Two NSW Blues stars return to NRL action tonight with Mitchell Moses in for the Eels and Cameron Murray backfor Souths.Parramatta Eels1. Dayne Jennings7.37pmJohns plays down NSW coach role talkBy With Laurie Daley set to move on from the NSW coaching role after this season, regardless of whether his Blues win the series decider, calls have been growing for Andrew Johns to replace him in the role.“Andrew Johns should be appointed NSW Origin coach for 2027 on a one-year contract,” wrote Peter FitzSimons on Saturday. “No ifs, no buts, no prevarications.”Johns’ brother Matthew said on Fox Sports this week he’d help out Andrew if he took on the job. But the man himself is not so keen.“Frankly though, it would be incredibly selfish for me to pursue, because it’s such an unknown,” Johns wrote in his weekly column for the Herald.1 of 2
