Two key Google AI researchers, Jonas Adler and Alexander Pritzel, are planning to leave the company to join competitor Anthropic, Bloomberg reported, following the recent departure of two other high-profile AI staffers.
Adler worked on Google’s AI coding product and Pritzel was involved in training AI systems, the report said.
Their departure follows those of John Jumper, whose work on using AI to predict protein folding won him a Nobel prize, and Noam Shazeer, a pioneer in the AI field who left Google in 2021 to form start-up Character.AI, then returned in 2024 as part of an unusual licensing deal that valued his company at $2.5 billion (£1.9bn).
