For outsiders, it seems odd that the man reported to be behind the player insurrection that cost Scott Robertson his job as All Blacks coach, Ardie Savea, has been appointed captain of the new regime, under Dave Rennie.
Mind you, perhaps it makes perfect sense if Savea had sound reasons to question Robertson’s abilities as coach of arguably the most successful rugby team in history.
All of this will have come out in the wash following Robertson’s shock sacking earlier this year, and Rennie’s appointment as his successor.
And the Savea appointment seems beyond reproach when you consider that Rennie and Savea, for some time now, have been a partnership at the Kobe club in Japan.
