Sir, – Richard Bannister (Letters, June 24th) accuses Brendan McGill (Letters, June 23rd) of flawed logic, but the latter’s identification of hypocritical Government advice is surely accurate. Dublin Airport cannot expand indefinitely. As for Bannister’s last comment about “those needing to travel across the Irish Sea or Atlantic Ocean”: vanishingly few people “need” to travel across the Atlantic. Improved and expanded fast ferry services could better cater for the much larger number of people who have to cross the Irish Sea. Furthermore, Atlantic flights should and could depart from Shannon and Cork, thus alleviating the immense pressure on Dublin Airport.
