CARACAS, June 25. /TASS/. Venezuela’s authorities have declared a state of emergency following a powerful earthquake, Reuters reported, citing authorized President Delcy Rodriguez.

She also said that Caracas’ international airport has been closed due to damage done by the earth tremors.

A devastating earthquake rocked Venezuela on Wednesday. The US Geological Survey (USGS) revised the earthquake’s magnitude upward to 7.5 from the initially reported 7.1. According to the USGS, two series of tremors, with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, were recorded one minute apart. Their epicenters were located ten kilometers apart in the Venezuelan state of Yaracuy. According to the agency’s assessment, there are likely to be a high number of casualties and widespread destruction.
