The Zamfara state government yesterday launched a tree-planting campaign to combat desert encroachment, flooding and other environmental challenges across the state.
Commissioner of Education, Abdulmalik Gajam, launched the Initiative which was a collaboration between the Greener Space Foundation Tree-Planting Initiative and the education ministry at Government Day Secondary School, Janyau, in Gusau, the state capital.
He said, “As part of the exercise, I planted the first trees to kick-start this important initiative, which is aimed at combating desert encroachment, restoring our ecosystem, and creating greener, healthier learning environments for our students.”
The initiative was launched under the theme, *”Restoring Ecosystems, Building Greener Communities.”
