Biotech Gilead Sciences received Food and Drug Administration approval to sell its drug Trodelvy as a first treatment for newly diagnosed patients with the advanced form of a type of breast cancer known as "triple negative" because it has characteristics that render common treatments ineffective. The alternative to chemotherapy recalled a similar rival drug from AstraZeneca and Daiichi Sankyo approved for a similar group of patients in May.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention formally ended its hantavirus response, nearly two months after an outbreak aboard a cruise ship in the Atlantic.
