He also used the term “sons of b—-es” more than 20 times. On Monday, however, Vera issued an apology on social media.“During the broadcast of the match between Paraguay and Turkey, I had an outburst,” the broadcaster said.“In the midst of my frustration over the expulsion of a player from my country, and feeling that my national team was being harmed, I used offensive and unacceptable expressions against the referee, FIFA, and its authorities.”Although FIFA declined to comment, sources, speaking on the condition of anonymity to protect relationships, said Vera’s comments were treated with “disgust” throughout the organization and acted swiftly to revoke his accreditation, which they did via sending him a letter. The same FIFA sources said they considered Vera’s actions to be “inconsistent with the standards of professionalism and respect expected of accredited broadcast personnel and representatives of its media partners.”FIFA informed Vera that his conduct had breached the terms of the media rights license granted to ABC Deportes, resulting in him no longer being able to attend matches at the tournament.
