June 24 (UPI) -- House Republicans on Wednesday advanced a bill that would ban members of Congress -- and their family members -- from taking part in some political prediction markets. Democrats, however, said the bill didn't go far enough.

"Onto the House floor," the House Administration Committee GOP account said in a social media post.

The committee voted along party lines for the Stop Lawmakers from Predicting Act, which would restrict lawmakers, spouses and dependent children from taking part in markets that are based on election or government action predictions, Politico reported.

In April, the U.S. Senate unanimously banned senators and members of their staff from taking part in the prediction markets altogether. Rep. Joe Morelle, D-N.Y., said the House of Representatives should do the same.
