Bulgaria has emerged as the top-performing country for fixed internet quality among nations with comparable economic profiles, according to new data released by the independent internet performance measurement platform nPerf. Covering the first five months of 2026, the study evaluated 20 countries and territories with GDP per capita ranging between USD8,000 and USD32,000, placing Bulgaria in first position with a score of 110,504 nPoints.
The ranking measures the overall quality of fixed internet services through a combination of indicators including download speeds, connection stability, web browsing performance, and streaming quality. According to nPerf, the results are designed to reflect the real-world experience of users, whether they are watching ultra-high-definition video, joining video conferences, browsing popular websites, or downloading large files.
Bulgaria finished ahead of Serbia, which ranked second with 108,342 nPoints, while Brazil followed with 107,424 nPoints and Costa Rica with 107,310 nPoints. Although Bulgaria secured the leading position, the differences among the highest-ranked countries were relatively small. The gap between Bulgaria and fourth-placed Costa Rica was just 3,194 nPoints, suggesting that performance levels among the top contenders remain closely matched.
