The matter generated a debate within academic and public circles, with calls from various quarters for investigations into the claims.
President Bola Tinubu has nominated former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, for appointment as a non-career ambassador/high commissioner designate, despite previous allegations linking him to a sexual harassment controversy involving a staff member of the institution.
The nomination was formally conveyed to the Senate and read during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who announced that President Tinubu had requested the upper chamber’s confirmation of Fasina’s appointment in line with constitutional provisions governing diplomatic nominations.
Fasina previously faced public scrutiny after he was implicated in a controversy involving allegations of sexual harassment made by Engineer Folasade Adebayo, a married deputy director in FUOYE’s Directorate of Works and Services.
The allegations gained national attention following the circulation of a leaked audio recording that critics and observers said suggested inappropriate conduct toward Adebayo.
