BERLIN, June 24. /TASS/. One of Russia’s top tennis players, Anna Kalinskaya, fell to World No. 105 Elena-Gabriela Ruse of Romania in the second round of the 2026 WTA Bad Homburg Open in Germany on Wednesday.
The unseeded Russian, who is playing under a neutral status at the tournament, won her opening round match against Austria's Sinja Kraus 6-4; 6-1, but fell in the second round to unseeded opponent Ruse 5-7; 2-6.
Kalinskaya, 27, is ranked 20th in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Rankings. She has never won a title on the WTA tour. Her best result playing in majors was making it to the quarterfinals at the 2024 Australian Open and the 2026 French Open.
The 2026 Bad Homburg tennis tournament is a WTA-500 class event running from June 21-27 on outdoor grass courts in Bad Homburg, Germany. It offers $1.2 million in prize money. Jessica Pegula of the United States is the reigning champion. Russia’s Diana Shnaider won this tournament in 2024.
