ZURICH: India is positively considering deputing a dignitary following Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian's invite to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the multi-day state funeral and burial ceremonies of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei that will start on July 3.While there has been no decision yet as to who would represent India, the government may depute a dignitary, ET has learnt.The function, delayed due to the conflict, will begin with the body lying in state at Tehran's Grand Mosalla complex. The erstwhile Supreme Leader of Iran will be buried in his hometown of Mashhad on July 9. Delegations are expected from Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, Lebanon, Russia, China, and several Central Asian states, ET has learnt.After the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash in May 2024, India had declared a day of national mourning and sent the then vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar to Tehran to lead the Indian delegation.
