On October 8, 2026, the world comes together once again for CNN’s Call to Earth Day — the global day of action dedicated to protecting the planet we all share. This year’s theme, “Think Blue,” shines a light on the one force that connects every country, every coastline, and every community on Earth: the ocean.

From the coral reefs of the Pacific to the rivers and waterways that flow through our cities, the health of our oceans impacts all of us. Whether we live close to the sea or thousands of miles from it, oceans feed billions of people, regulate our climate and produce much of the oxygen we breathe. Despite these benefits, a number of human-caused factors threaten to stall the planet’s blue engine. Rising temperatures, overfishing and plastic pollution are just some of the issues threatening this fragile ecosystem.

That’s why this year, Call to Earth Day is inviting schools, organizations, families, and individuals around the globe to “Think Blue” and take action in support of our important waters.
