MANILA, Philippines – The pre-need industry’s earnings fell sharply in the first quarter as weaker trust fund returns offset gains in premium income and plan sales.

Insurance Commission (IC) data showed the industry’s net income plunged 88 percent to P140 million in the first quarter from P1.17 billion a year earlier.
