India needs to step up from incremental progress to innovation at scale to fulfill its ambition of becoming a global discovery hub, according to Dr Reddy's Laboratories Chairman Satish Reddy. This requires stronger translational research pathways to ensure that scientific discoveries translate into meaningful patient impact, he said while releasing a white paper titled 'Translational Research Ecosystem: Learnings from the World & Building for India' by the company. The white paper highlights the growing importance of translational science as the critical bridge between discovery and real-world healthcare impact, sitting at the intersection of scientific innovation, multidisciplinary collaboration, funding, regulation, clinical development, policymaking and commercialisation. "India stands at a critical inflection point in its innovation journey. To realise our ambition of becoming a global discovery hub, we need a step change, from incremental progress to innovation at scale," Reddy said. He further said,"This requires stronger translational research pathways to ensure that scientific discoveries translate into meaningful patient impact, alongside accelerated R&D, scaled talent aligned to academic and research structures, and shared infrastructure to support innovation more efficiently." With the right coordination, India has the potential to play an important role in shaping the future of healthcare, Reddy asserted. Dr Reddy's Laboratories said translational science is increasingly at the forefront of modern biomedical innovation, bridging the critical gap between scientific discovery and practical application. By accelerating the journey from lab breakthroughs to accessible treatments, translational science plays a significant role in improving health outcomes, it added. However, the pace and scale of this progress are often shaped by a complex interplay of scientific, operational, financial, and regulatory challenges, the company noted. As per the white paper, while India has developed strong capabilities in scientific research and pharmaceutical manufacturing, the pathway between early-stage discovery and clinical development remains fragmented, causing promising innovations to lose momentum before reaching patients. Greater engagement between academia, industry, healthcare institutions, investors and government agencies will be essential to accelerate the translation of scientific research into healthcare solutions, it added. It further said sustained and appropriately structured funding is required to support innovations through the long and often complex journey from discovery to development and commercialisation.
India needs innovation at scale to fulfill ambition of becoming global discovery hub: Dr Reddy's
India must shift from minor advancements to large-scale innovation to become a global discovery hub, according to Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Chairman Satish Reddy. He emphasized the need for robust translational research pathways to ensure scientific breakthroughs benefit patients. The company's white paper highlights that stronger collaboration between academia, industry, and government is crucial for translating research into accessible healthcare solutions and overcoming existing challenges.
