Heads of mission of EU member states in Brussels today decided to extend sectoral economic restrictions against the Russian Federation for 12 months in line with the political decision adopted at the June 18 summit; the decision could already be approved by the EU Council tomorrow.

A European official stated this to Ukrinform's correspondent in Brussels on condition of anonymity.

The source said that the European Council had agreed on a 12-month period and that, at the meeting of EU member state ambassadors that day, the use of a written procedure to adopt the relevant decision at the level of the EU Council had been approved.

The deadline for the written procedure is tomorrow at 11:00 Brussels time.

Thus, if approved by the ministers of all EU member states, the decision to extend sectoral sanctions against Russia for 12 months will be adopted on Thursday.
