A drone of unknown origin, estimated to weigh around 200 kilograms, crashed into a residential area in the Black Sea town of Cide in Turkey’s northern Kastamonu province, according to Turkish media reports. No injuries were reported, although the incident caused material damage and sparked a formal investigation by local authorities.
The unmanned aerial vehicle reportedly went down around 07:30 local time in the garden of a house in the village of Kushkayası, within Cide municipality. It landed roughly 10 meters from a home, caught fire after impact, and was largely destroyed, with debris scattered across the surrounding area. The Turkish daily Türkiye Gazetesi reported that fragments of the aircraft were spread widely across the site.
The property owner said he heard a loud explosion-like noise before discovering wreckage in his hazelnut garden. Gendarmerie units secured the area, began an inspection, and launched an investigation into the drone’s origin, flight path, and technical specifications. Authorities have not yet determined whether the aircraft was military or civilian, and the recovered debris has been sent for analysis to identify its manufacturer and purpose.
The incident has drawn attention in Turkey due to a recent pattern of similar drone-related events along the Black Sea coast, including a separate case earlier this month involving an armed drone found on a nearby beach and other reported strikes on vessels and infrastructure in the region.
