Mark Lee made headlines in April when he left K-Pop group NCT and their super-label SM Entertainment to chart his own path as an independent soloist. Now, he’s in the news again, for an entirely different reason.
The Korean-Canadian rapper was seen wearing a t-shirt with the Confederate flag at a fan event, with his newly founded label Upper Room posting pictures and taking them down soon after.
The flag, which was used by the Confederate States of America during the US Civil War, has come to represent white supremacist ideals and the economic justification of slavery.
Users on X — fans and ops alike — knew this was something he’d have a hard time walking away from.
Seeing the backlash, Upper Room issued an apology on Tuesday. In an Instagram story, it said, “We would like to extend our sincere apologies for the concern, discomfort, and disappointment caused by the vintage T-shirt that appeared in a recently shared photograph.
