France has confirmed its first Ebola case, linked to the current Democratic Republic of Congo outbreak, after a doctor tested positive upon returning from a humanitarian mission.

Congo's outbreak has infected more than 1,000 people and killed 267, generating the largest number of confirmed cases within the first month of any Ebola episode.

There are no approved vaccines or treatments for the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, which is driving the current outbreak.

The US has shifted its position, providing doses of an experimental antibody drug from Mapp Biopharmaceutical for clinical trials in Congo, beyond its previous Americans-only policy.
