While we’re still waiting to hear if Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will get a third season, Apple TV is plugging away on the MonsterVerse spinoff series it announced late last year. The series still doesn’t have a name, but Deadline reports that Pilou Asbaek (Foundation) and Millie Brady (Surface) will join the show as series regulars in unspecified roles, and JD Dillard (The Outsider, The Twilight Zone) will direct the pilot. The upcoming series stars Wyatt Russell, who will reprise his Monarch role of the younger version of Colonel Lee Shaw. The spinoff “follows the story of Colonel Lee Shaw, an American operative who in 1984 went on a secret mission behind enemy lines in an attempt to stop the Soviets from unleashing a horrific new Titan big enough to destroy the U.S. and turn the tide of the Cold War.” Joby Harold (Obi-Wan Kenobi) is the series’ showrunner. Harold is also overseeing all of Legendary’s Apple TV MonsterVerse projects, which include “multiple” new TV series. The MonsterVerse is Legendary’s name for its shared Godzilla/King Kong/Titans universe, which it kicked off in 2014 with Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla. The most recent MonsterVerse movie was Adam Wingard’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire in 2024.
