A data center complex could be built at a former quarry in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.Texas-based HCI DP Land Acquisition LLC has filed to build two data centers and an electricity substation on a 250-acre plot on Wagner Street, in the South Hanover Township, which is part of Dauphin County.Part of South Hanover’s industrial park, the site is owned by construction materials firm Pennsy Supply and was formerly used as a quarry. A previous application had sought to build warehouses on the land, but the developer has now pivoted to the data center proposal.According to the plan, two single-story data center buildings will be constructed, with floor space of 401,800 sq ft (37,330 sqm) and 195,000 sq ft (18,165 sqm) respectively.Separately, it has submitted a request to develop a parcel of land outside the park, which is not zoned for industrial use, into a data center. The plans have attracted the ire of residents, who were already opposed to the warehouse scheme, and descended upon a meeting of the South Hanover Township Board of Supervisors, held on Tuesday, to voice their concerns.Anju Singh, a South Hanover Township resident, told Fox 43 that a lot of people in the area are feeling “blindsided” by the change of plan.South Hanover is currently developing rules around data center zoning, but the regulations have yet to be finalized by the board of supervisors.Pennsylvania is a rapidly growing data center market, and is already home to significant developments from several hyperscalers.
