The PGA Tour heads to Cromwell, Conn., for the eighth and final signature event of the season: the Travelers Championship. The field of 72 players will face a much easier test than the U.S. Open last week, but TPC River Highlands has a familiar par-70 setup. It’s a Pete Dye design that demands precision off the tee and has difficult greens that feature bentgrass mixed with Poa. The greens average around 5,000 square feet and will demand accurate iron play. The course record is held by Jim Furyk, who famously shot a 58 in 2016. Patrick Cantlay previously held the low round record of 60 as a 19-year-old amateur. This year’s field is headlined by Scottie Scheffler, who won here in 2024, and now two-time U.S. Open winner Wyndham Clark, who went wire to wire last week with an impressive display of putting on the slick surfaces at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club. On a side note, the Long Island fans did themselves a disservice throughout the weekend, heckling Wyndham Clark as he tried to close out his historic U.S. Open win. I have written about Clark being a bit of a villain on the tour after his antics at Oakmont last year, but the way the crowds treated him Sunday seemed out of line. Clark has worked his way back into fine form over the last two months, and it paid off as he claimed his second major championship victory at a historic venue. TPC River Highlands will play as one of the easiest scoring par-70 courses the field has seen in a while, especially with the absence of wind. The greens need to be attacked from the short grass, and players will need to give themselves as many opportunities as they can for par-breakers. The greens can be tricky, as we have seen over the years, with the Poa nubs rerouting putts that aren’t hit with enough conviction. My model will concentrate on strokes gained on approach from 125 to 150 yards out, strokes gained approach 100-125, total driving, strokes gained around the green, scrambling, strokes gained at TPC River Highlands, and strokes gained on short par-70 courses. 2026 Travelers Championship DFS picks, odds: Scheffler huge favorite ahead of a strong field
Scheffler is a huge favorite, but the course should be ripe for the rest of the players this week. Can someone knock Scottie off?
