Chinese AI start-up DeepSeek is entering the rising market for agentic technology, with a planned Harness product to deploy its models in commercially productive tasks.

The move is part of a broader rise in the use of agents for tasks such as programming, following the success of Anthropic’s Claude Code last year.

A harness is a software layer that links a foundation model to external tools and execution environments, enabling it to manage contexts, invoke tools, read and write files, and coordinate workflows.

The head of DeepSeek’s newly formed Harness unit, former Jane Street quantitative trading expert Cui Tianyi, said in a social media post on Saturday that the unit is rapidly expanding its team.
