Mkhwanazi to answer claims over stolen precious stones and Matlala links | Madlanga Commission
Suspended EMPD Chief, Commissioner Julius Mkhwanazi, will testify at the Madlanga Commission on Wednesday on the stolen precious stones, bribes for blue lights and corruption.
Spokesperson Jeremy Michaels confirmed that Mkhwanazi's appearance forms part of the commission's widening investigation into alleged criminality within the EMPD.
His testimony follows damaging evidence from Witness K, a former EMPD inspector and Mkhwanazi's ex-girlfriend, who implicated him in a series of alleged unlawful activities involving police officials and private security operators.
Central to the inquiry is a 2023 operation in Rosebank that allegedly resulted in the theft of precious stones valued at R14.9 million.
