The trailer of Julianne Moore’s upcoming musical comedy, The Debut, was unveiled by the makers on Wednesday (June 24, 2026). Written, directed and starring Jesse Eisenberg, the film has been backed by A24, the studio behind Everything Everywhere All At Once, Midsommar and Moonlight among others. The trailer offers a glimpse into the film where Moore plays a shy housewife, Mona Friedman, who is cast for a role at a community theatre. She navigates through the new place while tackling the whims of the play’s dominating director, Jerry (Paul Giamatti), who is described as “the biggest name in New Jersey community theatre”. He pushes Mona to her limits, making her do rigorous acting exercises and being unreasonably harsh towards her. The film promises to be an unusual comedy with a heartfelt touch. The Debut also stars Halle Bailey, Cara Buono, Craig Bierko and Eldar Isgandarov in pivotal roles. Its music is done by Eisenberg as well. The film marks Eisenberg’s reunion with Moore after his debut feature, When You Finish Saving The World, which was also backed by A24.Eisenberg’s last film, A Real Pain was a buddy comedy set in the backdrop of a Holocaust heritage tour. It earned nominations for Best Supporting Actor and Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards 2025 with actor Kieran Culkin winning in the former category. Published - June 24, 2026 12:33 pm IST
