Muhammad Aliyu, the widower of Malama Ummulkhairi, a mother of five and teacher in the Mararaban Jos community who was mobbed to death on Sunday over allegations of theft, has recounted the devastating moment he learnt of his wife’s killing.
Aliyu said the incident, which involved his wife being lynched and burnt by a mob in Kaduna State over alleged child theft, left his family completely shattered.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, he explained that the news of his wife’s death was broken to him by his children shortly after he returned home.
"On that tragic day, I returned home, and my children asked me, 'Father, where is our mother?' I replied, 'She has been killed.' Immediately, they broke down in tears,” he said.
