In 2026, Russian invaders shipped nearly 90,000 metric tons of Ukrainian wheat from the port of Mariupol, which they temporarily occupied.
According to Ukrinform, the Mariupol City Council reported this on Telegram, citing the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (Rosselkhoznadzor).
“88,800 metric tons of wheat have been shipped from the port of Mariupol on 12 vessels since the beginning of 2026,” the statement reads.
It is noted that since the beginning of the occupation of Mariupol, the invaders have been actively working to restore the port for the mass export of grain from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
The city council explained that the Russian side had previously stated its intention to use the port to access the Caspian Sea via the Volga-Don Canal, and then, through the Black and Mediterranean Seas, to reach the Atlantic and Indian Oceans.
