Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president B.K. Hariprasad said here on Tuesday that the State government intends to make new appointments to boards and corporations.During a press conference, Mr. Hariprasad said the party has appointed a new Chief Minister. Likewise, other senior party workers will be given an opportunity to head boards and corporations. “New people will be given an opportunity under the new Chief Minister,” he said.AICC to select district presidentsMr. Hariprasad said a new model has been formulated to elect district unit presidents. Earlier, the KPCC and District Congress Committee office-bearers used to elect district presidents. Now, observers from the All-India Congress Committee (AICC) will visit the respective districts and blocks for a week to gather opinions. At least two to six names from the district should be sent to Delhi. The district president will be elected by the AICC, he said.Referring to Cabinet expansion in the State, he said the party high command will take a call on the same. “It is not wrong for party leaders to express a desire to become a Minister,” he said.The government is eager to hold elections to local bodies in the State, he said.Mr. Hariprasad said that peace prevails, especially in the coastal belt, under the administration of Congress in the State.“There will never be a place for violence in this land of Sharana, Basavanna and Akkamahadevi. It is a big achievement that no untoward incident has taken place in the last one year,” he said.Referring to SIR, he said that the Election Commission has agreed to conduct a separate campaign if the SIR is hampered due to rains.MLCs Manjunath Bhandari and Ivan D’Souza were present.
