Madurai District All Tasmac Associations Joint Committee staged a protest here on Tuesday demanding the withdrawal of the temporary suspension action taken against an employee who was the Deputy General Secretary of the CITU Tasmac Employees State Federation and the Coordinator of the Coimbatore District Tasmac Union Joint Committee, for expressing opinions through the media regarding various irregularities occurring within the Tasmac corporation. The protest, which took place in front of the South District Manager’s office at Kappalur SIPCOT in Madurai, was presided over by Sivakumar, the Madurai District President of the CITU Tasmac Employees Union.During the protest, it was alleged that the action against S. John, the suspended employee, was taken with a vengeful motive for expressing opinions about the irregularities occurring within the Tasmac corporation, and that the government must drop this anti-democratic measure which has been carried out in a manner that snatches the freedom of speech of workers.Further, they spoke about how many irregularities take place in Tasmac and how many officials are involved in this, questioning if such actions would be taken against existing employees if they release these details; therefore, to weed out such irregularities and to protect the democracy of freedom of speech, the government must take appropriate action, cancel his suspension, and take steps to reinstate him into service. They insisted that the temporary suspension order against S. John must be withdrawn immediately without any conditions, and he must be reinstated into service.A large number of Tasmac employees participated in this protest and raised slogans demanding that measures snatching the workers’ freedom of speech must be dropped, and trade union rights must be protected.
