Russia has sharply escalated its rhetoric against Europe, describing it as a growing danger to global stability while simultaneously signaling openness to renewed dialogue, according to statements from senior officials in Moscow.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said during a meeting with foreign envoys that Europe’s military assistance to Ukraine is transforming it into what he called a destabilizing force. He argued that the US is also shifting away from any mediating role in efforts to end Russia’s war in Ukraine. “As for the United States, judging by their actions, they appear to be abandoning any claim to the role of an objective mediator and are instead pursuing a course of escalating sanctions pressure on Russia,” Lavrov said.
He further claimed that Europe is increasingly responsible for prolonging the conflict, stating that it is “becoming a major threat to international peace and security” due to its support for Kyiv.
At the same time, the Kremlin has continued to frame itself as open to negotiations. Yuri Ushakov, an aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin, said Russia remains willing to engage in dialogue with the European Union, while repeating Moscow’s claim that Western policies are sustaining the war rather than ending it.
