The Greek Left Coalition (ELAS), the new party founded last month by former prime minister Alexis Tsipras, has unveiled the figures who will oversee its six main policy areas in what is being touted as a “shadow cabinet” ahead of the next national elections.
Former SYRIZA executive Dionysis Temponeras will be responsible for labor policy, while consultant surgeon Spyros Dritsas takes charge of health. Historian and University of Thessaly rector Ioanna Laliotou will oversee education policy.
Retired judge Maria Lepenioti, who presided over the trial of the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party, has been assigned the justice, institutions and rights portfolio.
Economist Franciscos Koutentakis, who served in fiscal policy roles during the Tsipras government and later headed Parliament’s Budget Office, will oversee economic policy, while National Observatory of Athens research director Kostas Lagouvardos will be responsible for energy and environmental affairs.
Foreign policy will be headed by international law professor Harry Tzimitras.
