There will be a 50% reduction in the quantum of water purified and distributed under the Hogenakkal Fluorosis Mitigation and Drinking Water Project due to a noticeable change in the source water quality in River Cauvery.According to the district administrations of the two districts, there is a noticeable change in the colour and odour of the water inflow, and therefore, additional water treatment is proposed. As a result, the quantum of water supplied is being reduced by 50% to ensure supply of fully treated water.Until the water quality from source returns normal, there will be a shortfall in water supply under the Hogenakkal project. Public are called upon to use the supplied water judiciously till supply is regularised.Krishnagiri Collector C. Dinesh Kumar urged the public to ensure that they drink only boiled water, ensure water storage tanks and sumps are cleaned periodically, to cover water storage vessels, and to alert the district administration and Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD) if discoloration or smell noticed in the supplied water.Further, in view of the monthly maintenance to be carried out at Pennagaram sub-station, there will be no water supply on Wednesday (June 24, 2026).
