The Ministry of Railways has sanctioned the deployment of ‘Kavach’, India’s indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, across six strategic railway sections, including the Bobbili–Salur line in North coastal Andhra Pradesh. The inclusion of the Bobbili–Salur section in this safety upgrade marks a significant development for the region’s rail infrastructure. The deployment is part of a broader national initiative to implement an LTE-based communication backbone across the Indian Railways network. It is designed to prevent signal passing at danger (SPAD), over-speeding, and train collisions through continuous monitoring and automatic brake application.According to railway officials, the implementation of Kavach is expected to enhance safety for both passenger and freight operations. The system is particularly noted for its ability to ensure reliable train movement during adverse weather conditions, such as dense fog, thereby improving overall service punctuality and reliability.Beyond the Bobbili–Salur route, the project encompasses several other critical sections within the East Coast Railway zone, including Baghuapal–Budhapank, Haridaspur–Paradeep, Khurda Road–Balangir, Naupada–Gunupur, and Lanjigarh Road–Junagarh. This initiative aligns with the government’s ongoing mandate to modernise signaling infrastructure and expand safety coverage across high-density and strategically important routes.
