Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa will visit Ankara while Turkey is hosting the NATO summit.
According to Ukrinform, Bloomberg reported this, citing sources.
It is noted that Al-Sharaa’s visit will not be directly related to the summit, but will allow alliance leaders to discuss regional security, terrorism, and Syria’s reconstruction with him. At the same time, there is currently no official information about this visit.
“Although Al-Sharaa’s visit would not be related to the summit, sideline meetings there could boost his international standing... Some alliance leaders may want to speak with the Syrian leader about regional security, terrorism, and the country’s rehabilitation after years of civil war,” the post reads.
The publication notes that after the ouster of Syria’s longtime leader, Bashar Hafez Al-Assad, in late 2024, Al-Sharaa took the helm of the country and began presenting himself as a more moderate Islamist. Meanwhile, the U.S. and Europe are seeking to bring Syria closer to the West and limit the influence of Iran and Russia—Al-Assad’s former allies.
