The bird had reportedly been found on the beach at Salt Rock in KwaZulu-Natal towards the end of May. According to CROW, it appeared weak, exhausted, and undernourished when it was brought in for treatment.

A Cape Gannet that was found weak and undernourished on a KwaZulu-Natal beach has been successfully rehabilitated and released back into the ocean thanks to a collaborative effort between the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) and the Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW).

According to the NSRI, the seabird was released at sea on Monday, 22 June, after weeks of care and rehabilitation.

NSRI Durban Station Commander Etienne van Zyl said the rescue craft Spirit of Surfski 6 launched shortly after 6:30am, accompanied by a CROW team, three international volunteers, and the Cape Gannet, which was ready to return to its natural habitat.
