Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, the Speaker of Parliament and head of the Islamic Republic’s negotiating delegation, announced in an interview with Iranian state television that Tehran has agreed to establish a direct communication hotline regarding the Strait of Hormuz within the framework of recent understandings with the United States. According to him, this move aims to prevent conflicts and ensure the swift resolution of potential incidents in this strategic waterway.

Qalibaf stated: “Problems may arise in the Strait of Hormuz; therefore, we agreed to establish a center and set up a phone line so that, within 30 days, if issues arise, we can resolve them more rapidly and boost the regional economy.” He emphasized that this communication line does not equate to issuing transit permits for vessels, but has been created solely for crisis management and resolving potential bottlenecks in vessel traffic.

According to Qalibaf, “Permits follow their own specific procedures, and this contact line is only for resolving ship issues or potential incidents to ensure clarity is provided.” The head of the Islamic Republic’s negotiating delegation also pointed to Iran’s role in the waterway, adding: “The management of the Strait is with Iran, and we are the ones who resolve the issues.”
