THE ANC in KwaZulu-Natal commends Mayor Cyril Xaba and activist Yeshelen Govender for their constructive dialogue aimed at fostering unity and addressing community concerns.

ANC provincial spokesperson Sifiso Sonjica, said they welcomed the amicable engagement between Xaba and Govender.

“This positive development follows an unfortunate exchange of words between the two on June 16 in Sherwood, which garnered significant media attention,” said Sonjica.

“At the time, he was outlining the steps the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Migration and the City were taking to address the volatile situation. As part of mediating the misunderstanding between Xaba and Govender, the KZN convenor of the ANC, Michael Mabuyakhulu, facilitated a very constructive, cordial and frank discussion between the two.

“During the discussion, they both expressed regret for their part in the misunderstanding. Both recognised that they could have approached the situation with greater sensitivity. They emphasised that their comments were made during a moment of heightened emotion. Importantly, both leaders expressed that they do not perceive any prejudicial remarks directed at one another based on race or nationality,” he added.
