Social Democrat Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė's cabinet resigns on Tuesday after just over nine months in power. Here are the ten events that most defined its tenure.

Record defence spending

The government's most significant legacy may be fiscal. The 2026 state budget allocated 4.79 billion euros, 5.38 percent of GDP, to national defence, a record for Lithuania. The budget also raised pensions, increased social benefits, and delivered pay rises for teachers, doctors and public sector workers.

Defence minister sacked after 28 days

The cabinet's turbulent start was signalled early when Defence Minister Dovilė Šakalienė was dismissed just four weeks into the new government (she also served as the Defence Minister during the previous Paluckas' government). Ruginienė accused her of plotting behind her back after the defence ministry held a closed briefing with commentators in which lower-than-final defence funding figures were discussed.
