Volunteers of the Democratic Republic of Congo Red Cross wearing personal protective equipment carry the body of an Ebola virus disease victim from the morgue of the Rwampara health center, Ituri Province, Democratic Republic of Congo, on June 8, 2026.
Health officials and humanitarian agencies have cautioned that the lethal Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has now exceeded 1,000 confirmed cases, largely due to widespread false information and a significant inability to monitor those who have been exposed.
According to the DRC Ministry of Health, the country has recorded 1,003 confirmed cases and 254 confirmed deaths.
Currently, 365 patients remain either hospitalised or in isolation, while response teams continue active investigations and epidemiological surveillance in the affected zones.
