Sir, – A letter (June 20th) challenges Miriam Lord’s view that the abortion three-day waiting period is “rather condescending reflection time”. She makes a comparison with the “sensible” 14-day cooling off period when buying financial products. In making this comparison, she exemplifies the condescension Lord describes. One may purchase a product on impulse or having given half-thought to it. Have any of your readers ever met a woman who, on a whim, has found herself in a clinic requesting an abortion? It must be a comfortable place to live to not know the turmoil of this decision-making process. – Yours, etc,Saoirse Fox,Artane, Dublin 5.
