Libya emerged as a key topic during meetings in Cairo attended by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who spent two days in the Egyptian capital for talks with his counterparts from Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan on regional issues.

According to Kathimerini’s Istanbul-based correspondent Manolis Kostidis, particular attention focused on Fidan’s meeting with Massad Boulos, a special adviser at the US State Department for Arab and African affairs. No official details of the meeting were released.

Turkish media reports said discussions likely touched on oil exploration in Libya, efforts to reunify the country, developments in Lebanon and Gaza, and issues in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Sources noted increased discussion in recent months about possible scenarios for resolving the Cyprus issue, as well as developments concerning Libya’s maritime zones.

The meetings in Cairo also included discussions on regional tensions, including US-Iran talks, the Strait of Hormuz, Gaza and Lebanon.
