Over the weekend, five forest fires covering a total area of more than three hectares broke out in the Zhytomyr region as a result of a Russian drone attack.

This was reported by the Capital Forest Office branch on Facebook, according to Ukrinform.

“Five forest fires broke out as a result of a drone attack over the weekend. All occurred within the territory of the forest districts of the State Enterprise Forests of Ukraine in the Zhytomyr region. The fire engulfed forests in the Korosten, Korostyshiv, Baranivka, and Zviahel forest districts. The total area affected by the fires is over three hectares,” the statement reads.

It is noted that firefighting efforts were complicated by hot weather and strong winds, causing the fire to spread rapidly, while foresters worked at risk of secondary ignition.

Eight fire trucks, three firefighting modules, five tractors, and over 40 forest protection workers were deployed to extinguish the fires.
