Steam Machine/Pre-orders

The Steam Machine is finally arriving and very soon at that, but if you thought there might be a chance Valve found a way to get the price down at all, think again. Pre-orders are set to go live this week and the thing is going to cost you more than $1,000 if you’re even “lucky” enough to get one.

This is clearly not entirely Valve’s fault. With the AI bros ruining the memory and storage market for the rest of us, and sourcing parts for tech becoming increasingly difficult, you would have to be crazy to release any new gaming tech these days. But it is what it is, and here we are.

Valve is likely into too deep to turn back at this point anyway – unless you’re referring to billionaire Gabe Newell heading back down the beach front tunnel in his new $70M Florida estate because he forgot his towel – and the Steam Machine gaming PC rig is now officially set to go on sale on June 25 ahead of launch the following week on June 29 at a whopping $1,049 (and that’s just the starter price for the entry-level model).

The first orders are set to begin shipping in June 29, and Valve will get the rest of them sent out when more units are ready.
