Dangerous weather conditions have turned deadly in Grand Canyon National Park, where multiple hikers have died this month as summer visitation ramps up.
At least four people have died in weather-related incidents in the park so far in June, including three older hikers.
"On June 12, a 72-year-old male succumbed to symptoms of heat-related illness along the South Kaibab Trail on June 16, a 67-year-old male and a 68-year-old female also appear to have succumbed to symptoms of heat-related illness on the North Kaibab Trail, although the investigation is still ongoing," the National Park Service said in a press release. "Despite rapid response and aerial support, all three individuals were found deceased when responders arrived."
An 18-year-old also reportedly died on June 3 in a separate incident tied to the extreme temperatures.
Park officials have urged visitors to avoid hiking between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., when conditions are most dangerous.
